Forever and a day, I was not a morning person...despised the morning...until I opened my eyes a bit wider. I noticed the birds and squirrels playing, darting back and forth through the grass and over the street. I opened my ears and heard a song in which I simply found irritation prior.

I know that part of this evolution is due to my new found activism for Crohn's Disease. Ever since diagnosed at age 18, I have been ashamed of it. I've been embarressed because of the sickness, the need to know where every bathroom is in the vicinity. The constant state of being sick. ...and for many others, it gets worse than that.

I can still hear my mother's response,"Well, what are you going to do about it?"

For years, as I mentioned, I did nothing, I quietly suffered in silence, indicating that I wasn't feeling well to go anywhere or do anything. That response seemed to be enough for those around me who weren't privy to the knowledge of me and my Crohn's. I never had to explain. Life doesn't carry you through like that...and for the most part, I felt like damaged goods.

The revelationn 10 years after diagnosis...I have this forever...so I have to do something about it. No one should have to suffer in silence. If you create awareness, you free people suffering just like you from their own cages.

I urge you to go to: http://www.ccfa.org/ and learn more about Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. If you are able, sign up for the Guts & Glory Walk located in your vicinity. Famous people who suffer from crohn's and colitis - http://crohn-colitis.hu/html/p5_famousibd.php .

...and this is only the beginning.
